Empire of Austenasia

The Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence was founded in May 2009 by Act 80 of the Austenasian Parliament, with the purpose of defending Austenasia, its people and government.

It is run by the Minister of Defence, currently Lord Admiral Eren Lewis, Duke of Bernardston.

Austenasian Army

The Austenasian Army is responsible for keeping the state and the people safe from rebellion or invasion and providing help to the population during severe natural disaster. The Austenasian Army is headed by the Magister Militum, currently Lord Marshal William, and his deputy the Dux Britanniarum.

The Army is divided up into legions, each consisting of cohorts, which are each made of centuries. There are currently 23 enlisted soldiers in the Austenasian Army: eleven in Legio I Britannica and twelve in Legio II Augusta. The Empire can also rely on large numbers of local British supporters to aid it in times of conflict, e.g. during the Battle of the Grove in the Austenasian Civil War.

  • Legio I Britannica (11 soldiers)
    • Cohors I Esmonda (9 soldiers)
      • Centuria I Wrythiae (6 soldiers)
      • Centuria II Zephyriae (3 soldiers)
    • Cohors I Jonathana (2 soldiers)
      • Centuria I Gloucestria (2 soldiers)
  • Legio II Augusta (12 soldiers)
    • Cohors I Declana (12 soldiers)
      • Centuria I Scotia (6 soldiers)
      • Centuria II Midgetae (6 soldiers)

Imperial Navy

The Imperial Navy was originally founded on 11 October 2009; however, with Austenasia at this point in time being completely landlocked and owning no boats, it was dissolved on 8 March 2010. The Imperial Navy was re-established exactly five years later, on 8 March 2015. It currently consists of seventeen enlisted soldiers, formerly Legio I Virginia in the Austenasian Army. The Imperial Navy is led by Lord Admiral Joseph Kennedy, Count of Greater Richmond. It has several boats, and maintains a naval presence on Lake Ontario, which borders the Town of Shineshore.

Imperial Air Force

The Imperial Air Force (IAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Austenasian Armed Forces, the national military of the Empire of Austenasia. The IAF was founded on 11 October 2009,  but apart from a few secret weapon tests the IAF never really contributed to the defence of Austenasia. The IAF was disestablished on 8 March 2010 and its functions transferred to the Austenasian Army. In September 2010, Zephyria was given permission to found its own local air force, subject to regular inspection by the central government. This was officially founded by Lord Marshal William on 19 December 2010 in response to the Fall of Wrythe.

On 28 January 2012, the Imperial Air Force was properly re-established with the passing of the Imperial Air Force Act 2012, with Sir Micheal Mitchell (also an officer in the Austenasian Army) leading it as Air Chief Marshal. Lord Marshal William's "Imperial Air Force" renamed itself to the "Zephyrian Air Force" in response, before eventually joining the IAF in April 2014. The IAF currently has 6 enlisted members, two of whom are also officers in the Austenasian Army.

The Imperial Air Force currently has two remote-controlled helicopters (one of which is a reconnaissance helicopter with a high-definition camera) and a remote-controlled plane. A design for an observation balloon, the Ascension-class, was successfully tested in February 2013, but only one (now deflated) was built.

Operation Fulcio (2009)

Operation Fulcio was started by the Ministry of Defence to strengthen the borders of Austenasia and train the Army over a 5 month period.

25 May - Review of borders and possible defences.

26 May - Training firearm accuracy and teamwork of the Austenasian Army.

22 July - Meeting on the security of Wrythe's north-eastern border.

23 July - Weapons for the defence of the Imperial Residence upgraded.

19 August - Secret weapon testing carried out by the Austenasian Army.

13 September - Meeting on aerial defences.

4 October - Secret weapon testing carried out by the Austenasian Army.

11 October - IAF and Imperial Navy founded.

Austenasian Civil War

The Austenasian Civil War was declared by Lord General William against the government of Emperor Esmond III and Crown Prince Jonathan on 7 March 2010 on behalf of Princess Caroline's claim to the Throne. For more information on the Austenasian Civil War, see its MicroWiki article here.

Battle of Carshalton Park

A small detachment of the Austenasian Army, comprised of the then Crown Prince Jonathan and General Sir Ryan Dickinson, KCP, met with William Kingsnorth in Carshalton Park on 18 April 2010 to discuss peace terms. He refused all reasonable terms of peace, and the government forces attempted to handcuff him and force him to surrender in order to end the war. William escaped and stole a bag of the AAF's equipment, and after a small battle got a nosebleed. He insisted that he had not been hit on the nose, but that it was caused by running around so much in the hot sun. Nevertheless, the Crown Prince ordered the Austenasian Army to withdraw. They did so, forcing William to retreat with them, although they let him go back to South Kilttown minutes later.

Battle of the Grove

Foreign supporters of Emperor Esmond were attacked by, but defeated, foreign supporters of Princess Caroline when they met up for training despite heavy rain. After a bloodless victory, the Carolinians were made to leave the vicinity, after which the Esmondians claimed the park in the name of the Emperor against any other rebels.

The war was ended on 24 May 2010 after the Treaty of Ruskin Road was signed by the Emperor, with victory for the legitimate government.

War of the Orlian Reunification

On 9 December 2010, the Tsardom of Orly and Midget Nation-in-Exile entered into a state of war with the Kingdom of Rushymia. The Midget Nation militarily threatened Austenasia, and so on 10 December the Empire joined the war on the side of Rushymia in self-defence.

On 19 December, Wrythe was surrendered to the Midget Nation. A state of peace was declared, and Declan I was appointed co-Emperor.
